International Family Law

Divorce and child custody are emotional issues which are made more complex when they involve families with different nationalities or family members living in different places. Most divorces in the U.S. involve U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents. It is our experience that many courts in the U.S. have little to no experience of handling divorces and child custody issues involving foreign citizens or abduction of a child to a foreign country.

Carreras & Lemoine, LLP has helped many individuals, who find themselves caught between different legal systems, to obtain a divorce, alimony, child support or child custody. We are also familiar with cross-border family issues involving international family law, such as removal of a child to another jurisdiction as well as enforcement of foreign divorces in the U.S. and enforcement of U.S. divorces in Europe. Through our particular understanding of the role of international family law, international conventions and foreign legal systems, we can make the difficult journey of divorce and child custody more manageable.
